  • What is an Osteopath?

An Osteopath is a health practitioner who specialises in the treatment of a wide range of musculo-skeletal complaints. By using hands on treatment, osteopaths aim to relieve pain, improve mobility of joints and reduce muscle tightness. During treatment an osteopath will not only address the problematic area, but also surrounding muscles, joints and ligaments to prevent re-injury. Osteopaths will also provide you with advice on lifestyle, stress and exercises to get you on the road to recovery.

Additionally Osteopaths are qualified to refer patients to other specialists if appropriate for further investigations such as MRI scans, X-rays, CT scans, blood tests etc.

  • What can they treat?

People seek osteopathic treatment for a wide range of conditions. Osteopaths treat adults, children, infants and babies for symptoms including:

    - Back and neck pain,

    - Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand problems,

    - Hip, knee, ankle and foot problems,

    - Headaches and migraines,

    - Work-related pain,

    - Sports injuries,

    - Mobility problems and arthritis,

    - Pain relating to pregnancy or post delivery.

In children, infants and babies Osteopaths can also help with:

    - Feeding difficulties including tongue-tie and problems latching

    - Sleeping difficulties and unsettled babies

    - Reflux and colic

    - Excessive wind and constipation

    - Recurrent infections

    - Some behavioral problems

  • Do I need a GP referral?

No – Osteopaths are considered as primary health care practitioners and are therefore qualified to see patients without a GP referral. However some insurance companies may require a GP referral to cover the cost of your treatments, so check with your insurance company before booking an appointment.

  • How many treatments will I need?

We are always honest with our patients and as much as we like to see you, we will tell you when we no longer need you to come back.
As each person is different there is no set number of treatments required. Some patients may only need a couple of sessions, whereas some chronic problems may require long term management. A management plan will be discussed with you on your first appointment as well as expected outcomes of treatment.

  • Is Osteopathy safe?

Yes – All Osteopaths in the UK must have completed a 4-year degree and are registered with the General Osteopathic Council to practice. Osteopaths will use the most appropriate and safe way of treating you as they are specifically trained to recognise any condition that may be inadvisable to treat using osteopathy.

  • Does Osteopathic treatment hurt?

The majority of our patients feel pain relief immediately. However it is normal to feel a little bit of aching or soreness 24-48 hours following a treatment.

  • What should I wear?

It is essential for patients to feel comfortable during treatment, therefore we advise you to come wearing loose clothing. However depending on the site of your pain, your Osteopath may require you to undress to your underwear. If you have any concerns please ask your practitioner before your treatment or contact us at reception@larasclinic.com.

  • I'd like to bring my baby for a check up, what age can I bring him/her in?

We often advise Mums to bring their babies in for a check up following birth as it can be stressful for both of you. Osteopaths can treat children as young as a few days old, and so we advise you to bring newborns in as soon as you feel ready.

  • Is there disabled access?

Unfortunately we are unable to provide complete disabled access to our clinic locations.
